Former Cullberg teacher Irena Milovan passed away
Former prima ballerina and Yugoslavian ballet teacher Irena Milovan died last month in Madrid. She was an engaged teacher at Cullbergbaletten for many years, starting in the early nineties and giving her final class for the company in 2013. Her Vaganova- and English school based pedagogy asked the dancers to go to the extremes. In her long and rich career as a dancer, Irena danced Giselle and Coppélia at the Royal Opera House, La fille mal gardée with the American Ballet and special pieces by Alfred Rodrigues and Michael Descombey. Birgit Cullberg personally staged Miss Julie with her. Irena Milovan’s work was highly appreciated at the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Frankfurt Ballet, the Gulbenkian Ballet and at Cullbergbaletten at the time. Her life was dedicated to dancing and teaching. Irena was one of those many people that have shared their passion and professional knowledge with our company.
