Cullberg + Stadsteatern = true

Cullberg gets a new main stage in Stockholm at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern. The three-year collaboration begins with a world premiere by choreographer Renan Martins on March 6, 2025, in Hörsalen.
“I am very happy about this collaboration,” says Kristine Slettevold, Cullberg’s Artistic Director. “This makes it possible for us to present our repertoire with greater regularity and with longer runs in our hometown, Stockholm, which feels fantastic. Now even more people can experience dance, and I am really curious about what this collaboration over the next three years may bring.”
Birgit Cullberg founded the dance company in 1967, and the very first premieres took place at Stockholm City Theatre. In total, Birgit Cullberg created seven ballets in the first year, among them Fedra and Lekvattnet.
“I am so happy to welcome Cullberg,” says Maria Sid, director of theatre and performing arts at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern. “Cullberg has been looking for a permanent venue in Stockholm, with the possibility of performing several shows. We want to broaden the repertoire to also include Cullberg’s internationally acclaimed dance. This is a win-win for both parties!”
“In my new work Guerrilla we continue to explore community and the collective as themes,” says choreographer Renan Martins. “Together with Cullberg and artist Olof Dreijer, who is composing the music, we want to take things a step further and include the audience. We have just had a first research week, digging into our personal dance archives. The result was in many ways confrontational and beautifully daring. I am very, very eager to begin rehearsals again in January,” says Renan Martins.
Renan Martins is a Brazilian choreographer based in Europe. He trained at SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance) and P.A.R.T.S (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios), and has performed in works by, among others, Iztok Kovač and Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker. Guerrilla will have its world premiere on March 6, 2025, in Hörsalen, Kulturhuset Stadsteatern.
