Kristine Slettevold to continue as Artistic Director of Cullberg

Kristine Slettevold has agreed to continue as Artistic Director of the dance company Cullberg, which means that her appointment is extended for four years, from 2026 to 2030.
“I am pleased that Kristine accepted an extended appointment. During her first three years she has focused on the ensemble and the dancers’ expression, and through her programming has made Cullberg more accessible to diverse audiences. Kristine is a strong leader with a vision of the power of dance and the importance of art,” says Mia Larsson, Head of Dance at Riksteatern.
Since Kristine Slettevold took over as Artistic Director in 2022, Cullberg has produced several public successes and toured in Europe and the USA. The company has collaborated with contemporary and relevant choreographers such as Hooman Sharifi, Alexandra Bachzetsis, and Renan Martins. In August, Cullberg will present its next world premiere in Berlin with Some Thing Folk by Ligia Lewis.
“It feels fantastic to have the trust to continue developing the company’s artistic vision over the next five years. I am proud of what we have achieved so far and incredibly excited for what lies ahead. We will continue to deepen our artistic work through dance, with a strong focus on radical and engaging choreographic works – while also continuing to push the boundaries of what a company like this can be,” says Kristine Slettevold.
Kristine Slettevold trained at Khio and Skolen For Samtidsdans in Oslo. Alongside her work as a dancer, Kristine was employed as Senior Lecturer in Dance at the Stockholm University of the Arts from 2010 to 2022, where she was responsible for the bachelor’s programme in dance and also served as Head of Department. She has worked as a freelance dancer since 2001 with choreographers including Cristina Caprioli, Jefta van Dinther, and Hooman Sharifi.
Kristine Slettevold became Artistic Director of Cullberg in 2022, succeeding Gabriel Smeets. Since the company’s founding in 1967, Artistic Directors have included Anna Grip, Johan Inger, Lena Wennergren Juras/Margareta Lidström, Carolyn Carlson, Mats Ek, and founder Birgit Cullberg.
